Our Story
Selous Impala Camp was inspired by a love for wild spaces. Few are as wild as the iconic Selous in southern Tanzania. This simple, yet elegant tented camp was built in 2005 along a wooded stretch of the unmistakeable Rufiji River. It is established as one of the premier locations inside what is now known as Nyerere National Park and is well-loved by regular visitors to this special part of Africa.

Nyerere National Park
Selous Impala Camp (pronounced “Seluu”) is situated inside the Nyerere National Park, previously called Selous Game Reserve. The park was renamed in 2019 in honor of the first president of Tanzania, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. Nyerere National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania and one of the world’s largest wildlife sanctuaries. At over 30,000km², it is about the size of Belgium!

Family Getaways
Selous Impala Camp makes the African wilderness a safe place for the whole family to enjoy. Our skillful guides are knowledgeable about wild animals and their behavior, as well as offer the best game viewing opportunities by vehicle or boat. Our guides will arrange special child-friendly camp excursions to enhance the stay for your little ones. In addition, our family tents are set on a joint platform which makes it safe and easy to walk between your tents. Families of up to three children, with a minimum age limit of 10 years of age, can easily be accommodated. Please note the fly-camping and walking safaris are restricted to 16 years and older.
Honeymoon Holidays
The edge of the Rufiji River makes for the best romantic memories. Beautiful and private, our tents offer wonderful views from your very own veranda. Sleep in late or rise with the birds to head off on a wild game drive – whatever your preference, our team makes every effort to spoil honeymoon couples for an ideal treat on your Tanzania honeymoon.
Due to the camp’s exclusivity, there is a good chance that you will have the safari vehicle to yourself!
Bird Lovers Paradise
Be spoilt for choice with over 400 species of birdlife within the Nyerere National Park. Discover just some of the diversity seen within our camp area alone. If you’re interested in exclusive bird sighting game drives, we love birds as much as you, so we would be happy to oblige, and many special species in the camp area. See some of our regular camp species like the endemic Ruvu Weaver, African Skimmer, Speckle-throated Woodpecker, and Southern ground hornbill. Exclusive birding drives can be arranged.
